2019 – June: Joint Network IB Careers Fair

In June 2019, CBMNet joined with BIOCATNET and NPRONET to run an Industrial Biotechnology (IB)-themed Careers Fair. Following on from a previous, successful joint network event in 2017, the event was aimed at Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and aimed to provide them with the opportunity to hear from and talk to academics, individuals and companies working in IB.

The event was introduced by CBMNet director Jeff Green (University of Sheffield) and the morning consisted of a series of short talks from companies, organisations and academics, with a bit of advice, encouragement and information:

  • Aston University – Alan Goddard
  • Green Biologics – Mandy Harding
  • Ingenza – Reuben Carr
  • Lonza – Antony Munn
  • Peak Proteins – Hazel Weir
  • Centre for Process Innovation – Joanne Neary
  • UKRI-BBSRC – Catherine Gilmore
  • Croda – Jeremy Bartosiak-Jentys
  • Calysta – Tithira Wimalasena
  • FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies – Anna Gabbbott
  • AstraZeneca – Francesco Falcioni

The afternoon consisted of 10-minute ‘speed-dating’ one-to-one sessions with representatives from all of the above companies, as well as IBioIC and the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology. Many thanks must go to all the companies and individuals who gave up their time to pass on their valuable expertise and experience.

“The one-to-one sessions were really helpful.”

“It was great as a small business to be able to present our services and engage with so many young researchers in one place. Very well organised and useful event to attend”
